Race Description

The start is from the Nerotal Park, next to Eden Café Bistro. The first 800 m are inside the park, following the direction to the Nerobergbahn. Once passed the arch below the cable railway, the route follows the ten steep bends of the footpath to the top of the Neroberg. The moment the runners pass next to the Neroberg-Temple, only about 1.4 km are completed, but with already a gain of more than 100 m of elevation. The following 800 m are easy, along the forest road next to the “Kletterwald Neroberg” area; then a sharp turn on the left and the first downhill that leads to a paved road at km 3.

The route goes up again and the profile does not change for the next 5.3 km, as expected from a mountain running race. After 1 km, the ground changes again when the runners begins the forest road towards a hut in the middle of the woods. At km 5.3 from the start, at the next crossroad, the runners turn on the left and reach a short flat road that gives time to breath. Once the paved road ends, the route goes up again for about 1 km with slopes between 8 and 12 %, before another easier portion that anticipates one of the key-points of the race: the last part of the Rodelbahn, with slopes between 14 and 22%. At the top, almost 500 m of elevation are gained and it only remains two hundred meters more to pass the “Ziel” for the first time.

A sharp turn and the downhill begins along the same two hundred meters, with the nice option to cheer with the runners still in the uphill portion. The downhill follows the paved road for about 2 km and eventually the path crosses again with the same route of the former uphill part. At km 11.8, the next crossroad brings the runners to run for the next five kilometers around the “Rabengrund von Wiesbaden”. It is not always downhill and it requires to push to maintain a good pace. After passing the playground, the next km directs the runners to the Nerobergbahn, at about km 18. The route follows again the footpath to the Neroberg but, at the first bend, the runners proceed along the “Philosophenweg” for about 700m (average slope of 5.6%). The following downhill brings to the same route made in the first uphill to Platte.

Beyond the Race

Great atmosphere at the start in Nerotal Park, with friends and families cheering the runners of the 25km. Great atmosphere at the end (at Jagdschloss Platte) with all the runners (from both 25 km and 8.5 km races) re-united to enjoy a huge amount of chocolate offered by the organizers. For me a very special race, along tracks that are now my usual playground for training, with the luxury to meet familiar faces of this area at the same time: Ann-Cathrin, Andre, Ilka, Ingo, Stephan, Kai, Thomas, and others from the running community in Hessen.
