Location: Imsbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany https://goo.gl/maps/iuzgYrhp3rysqhkT7
The start is from the Sportplatz at Imsbach. The first kilometer is on a paved-road, slowly uphill. After crossing the parking area, the ground changes and it began the footpath session that lasts for the rest of the route. Fast downhill among the trees after about 2 km, before reaching a cross with the regional route. The next uphill section is short but nice: among rocks and trees, feeling like in alpine routes. At km 5, after a steep downhill footpath, the route is again uphill, characterized by large footpaths.
The next 10 km section is more or less a continuous uphill footpath, between trees, with the ground covered by leaves. The highest point of this first part is reached at km 16; immediately after this point, it starts the downhill section, which brings to the second aid station. A sharp turn to the right, few hundred meters to drink and eat, and then a steep uphill section begins. It is short but hard to run: fast hiking is a good alternative.
From km 19 to km 29, the route is perfect for running fast if the energies are still enough. After the third aid station, it starts a constant uphill section of about four kilometers; it is not too steep and it is possible to jog or run, but it is important to have saved enough energies in the former parts. At km 34, the third aid station is placed on the edge of a curve with a view towards the valley.
The following two kilometers are flat on a forest road. The latter ends and it began the last long uphill section, which ends in an area with some ruins from the past. The footpath follows an ancient wall, running with a lot of concentration to avoid roots or stones. The next long downhill section is easy and fast, interrupted by last aid station at km 42. Turn on the right, still few hundred meters downhill and another uphill section begins, for a total of about 2.5 km. The same situation repeats for the following 2.5km, bringing everybody to the bottom of the very last and steep uphill. At its end, the finishing line is located just few meter before a panoramic view of the valley and the city of Imsbach, 200 m below.
